Medication Abortion in Primary Care

One of every four US women has an abortion and at least as many have a miscarriage. In a growing number of communities, women need to travel considerable distances to obtain clinical assistance with an abortion or miscarriage. Such travel is a particular burden for rural and low-income women. Both early abortion and miscarriage can be managed with a single dose of oral mifepristone followed by misoprostol. Many patients prefer to receive these family planning services from their trusted primary care provider.

This one-hour interactive training presents an evidence-based approach to evaluating and counseling patients seeking early abortion or miscarriage management. It is intended for primary care providers.

1. Appropriately evaluate patients prior to provision of mifepristone for early abortion
2. Effectively counsel patients about how to use mifepristone and misoprostol for medication abortion
3. Discuss criteria to determine the need for additional clinical services after medication abortion.

Requirements
An Internet connection, up-to-date web browser, Adobe Acrobat Reader*, and video streaming capability are required to participate in this course.

Fees
The cost to participate in the online training for CE credit is $60.

In support of improving patient care, the University of California, San Francisco Office of CME is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.

Cancellation Policy
Cancellations should be made in writing within 7 days of enrollment. Refunds will only be made in the event that technical difficulties prevent completion of the activity, or if no interaction with the material occurred because of inadvertent or mistaken enrollment, or expiration of the activity before the learner had the opportunity to complete it fully.
