Overview

UCSF Kidney Transplantation Update 2026

We are delighted to invite you to the UCSF Kidney Transplantation Update 2026, a one-day continuing medical education (CME) program that has been a marquee event of the UCSF Kidney Transplant Program for more than two decades. Each year, this course brings together world-renowned transplant surgeons and nephrologists from UCSF to share the latest research, clinical advances, and practical insights in the dynamic field of kidney transplantation.

The 2026 program will highlight today’s most pressing and “burning” issues in kidney transplantation. Through focused lectures and interactive discussions, our expert faculty will address innovations in immunosuppressive strategies, evolving approaches to highly sensitized patients, advances in living donor programs, new therapies in antibody-mediated rejection, and the role of emerging technologies in improving outcomes. Multidisciplinary aspects of care—including pharmacy, psychosocial support, and long-term management of transplant recipients—will also be emphasized, reflecting the comprehensive nature of transplantation.

This course is tailored for community nephrologists, advanced practice providers, pharmacists, social workers, trainees, and all clinicians who are involved in or interested in kidney transplantation. Attendees will leave with up-to-date, evidence-based, and clinically relevant knowledge that can be readily applied in practice.

In addition to cutting-edge content, the UCSF Kidney Transplantation Update 2026 provides a unique opportunity to engage with UCSF faculty and colleagues committed to advancing transplantation and patient care.

We look forward to welcoming you to this year’s program and continuing the tradition of excellence that has made this course a cornerstone of kidney transplantation education for over 20 years.

Objectives
As a result of the education, I intend to:

  1. Evaluate donor organ offers and apply evidence-based acceptance strategies that optimize organ utilization and promote equitable allocation.
  2. Implement advanced immunosuppression and desensitization strategies tailored to highly sensitized, complex, or high-risk kidney transplant recipients.
  3. Identify and manage recurrent and donor-derived kidney diseases earlier through integrated pathology, infectious disease, nephrology, and surgical approaches.
  4. Increase the effective use of living donor expansion strategies and patient counseling to enhance access to transplantation.
  5. Incorporate clinical trial opportunities and emerging therapies—such as xenotransplantation, cellular therapies, and organ preservation innovations—into patient care discussions and referral pathways.
  6. Demonstrate integration of new evidence and consensus-based best practices into daily clinical decision-making to reduce preventable graft loss and improve patient and graft outcomes.
