The Division of Maternal Fetal Medicine in the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology, & Reproductive Sciences and Surgery and the Division of Critical Care Medicine in the Department of Anesthesia and Perioperative Care proudly present the Society of Critical Care Medicine course: Fundamental Critical Care Support: Obstetrics (FCCS: OB) which provides training specific to treating the critically ill or injured pregnant patient.

  • Physiologic Changes During Pregnancy

  • Airway Management in the Pregnant Patient

  • Preeclampsia/Eclampsia

  • Maternal Cardiac Arrest

  • Obstetric Hemorrhage

  • Sepsis in Pregnancy

  • Cardiac Conditions in Pregnancy

  • Fetal Evaluation and Fetal Concerns in the Seriously Ill Pregnant Patient

  • Management of Delivery and Newborn

  • Thromboembolic Disease and Pregnancy

  • Mechanical Ventilation in Pregnancy

  • Pregnancy-related AKI

  • Transport of the Critically Ill Pregnant Patient

  • Nonobstetric Surgical Diseases in the Pregnant Patient

  • Neurocritical Care in Pregnancy

Skills Stations Include:

  • Management of Severe Preeclampsia and Eclampsia

  • Postpartum Hemorrhage

  • Cardiopulmonary Arrest in Pregnancy

Objectives

By the end of this course, participants will be able to:


  1. Prioritize key assessment needs for critically ill pregnant patients using structured evaluation tools and clinical judgment.
  2. Apply knowledge of pregnancy-related physiologic changes to interpret clinical findings and adjust management strategies.
  3. Recognize and manage specific maternal obstetric and medical conditions by selecting and initiating evidence-based treatments.
  4. Perform optimal maternal CPR and airway management techniques in simulated scenarios involving critically ill pregnant patients.
  5. Conduct fetal assessments, initiate appropriate delivery procedures, and implement immediate neonatal management steps according to established guidelines.
  6. Identify situations requiring expert consultation or patient transfer, and execute the appropriate processes to ensure safe and timely transfer of pregnant patients.

1. In the UCSF Outreach Website, navigate to the top right of the screen and select “Login/Register” (Use the Register button above to navigate to the site.)

2. Once within the User Account tab, select “Create new account, login (if you already have an account) or request new password”

3. If you are creating an account, our office will have to grant you access. Please allow 24-48 hours during normal business hours to activate your account. You will receive the following message:

4. Once your account is registered, you will receive the following email with a link to create your password:

5. If you are resetting your password, please make sure to check your Spam folder!

6. Once you have reset or created your password, go to “Events” and browse what classes you would like to register for:

Cancellation Policy

Although each activity will have its own cancellation policy, in general, cancellations received in writing no less than 7 days prior to the start of an activity will be refunded, less a $115 administrative fee. No refunds will be made on cancellations received after that date. Please send cancellation requests through our Refund Request form.

UCSF Office of CME reserves the right to cancel or postpone this program if necessary; in the event of cancellation, course fees will be fully refunded. We are not responsible for other costs incurred such as non-refundable airline tickets, hotel penalties, or other related personal expenses.
