This module describes the stages of development children go through and recommended approaches to supporting child development through the course of life-threatening illness and end of life.

This module discusses common ethical and legal considerations that affect children with life-threatening conditions and those who care for them. This includes how parents are decision-makers for their minor children, and providers act as invested parties who ensure decisions made are in the child's best interests.

Data reveal a significant under treatment of pain in children with cancer in the developed world. However, children and parents expect pain to be relieved and parents' greatest distress is failing to protect their child from pain. The younger children are, the less likely it is that they receive appropriate analgesia. This module describes pain in children with disease or under treatment, and discusses the application of WHO principles of pain management.
