Overview
This 8-month fellowship addresses the gap between clinical expertise and educational competency for early-career primary care faculty. The program develops essential skills through evidence-based training in clinical teaching methods (One Minute Preceptor, SNAPPS, small group facilitation), structured learner assessment, curriculum design using adult learning principles, and culturally responsive mentoring. Fellows also build leadership competencies in negotiation, meeting facilitation, and scholarly project development to prepare for the full spectrum of academic responsibilities. The curriculum combines eight monthly 3-day sessions with implementation practice in participants' home programs, fostering both skill development and peer networking. Fellows return each month to share experiences, refine approaches, and build lasting professional relationships that support career-long growth and collaboration.

Objectives
As a result of the education, I intend to:

  1. Implement specific clinical teaching models (One Minute Preceptor, SNAPPS, Prime and Prep, Two Minute Observation, and Activated Demonstrations) during clinical supervision.
  2. Apply structured assessment frameworks to evaluate learner competencies and provide specific, actionable feedback during clinical rotations.
  3. Design curriculum components that address identified learning gaps using adult learning principles and incorporate active learning methods.
  4. Demonstrate effective mentoring conversations that support learner development across cultural and professional differences.
  5. Design and execute a scholarly project that contributes to medical education, scholarship, or program improvement initiatives.
  6. Establish leadership practices that promote collaborative decision-making and positive educational culture within their home programs.
  7. Establish ongoing peer mentorship relationships within the fellowship network to provide mutual support and collaborative problem-solving for educational challenges.
  8. Adapt teaching resources and communication strategies to support learners from diverse backgrounds, addressing varying learning styles, cultural perspectives, and professional development needs.
  9. Demonstrate dynamic presentation skills, including interactive engagement strategies, visual design principles, and audience-responsive delivery methods during educational presentations.
  10. Practice evidence-based wellbeing strategies, including self-compassion techniques, growth mindset approaches, and mindful practice methods, to sustain professional effectiveness and prevent burnout.

Accreditation

Jointly Accredited Provider with Commendation

In support of improving patient care, the University of California, San Francisco Office of CME is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.

ACCME Credit: UCSF Office of CME designates this live Activity for a maximum of 100.00 AMA PRA Category 1™ Credit(s). Physicians should claim only the the credit commensurate to their participation in the activity.

Advance Practice Registered Nurses and Registered Nurses: For the purpose of recertification, the American Nurses Credentialing Center accepts AMA PRA Category 1 CreditTM issued by organizations accredited by the ACCME.

Physician Assistants: The National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) states that the AMA PRA Category 1 CreditTM are acceptable for continuing medical education requirements for recertification.

California Pharmacists: The California Board of Pharmacy accepts as continuing professional education those courses that meet the standard of relevance to pharmacy practice and have been approved for AMA PRA category 1 CreditTM. If you are a pharmacist in another state, you should check with your state board for approval of this credit.

California Psychologists: The California Board of Psychology recognizes and accepts for continuing education credit courses that are provided by entities approved by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME). AMA PRA Category 1 CreditTM is acceptable to meeting the CE requirements for the California Board of Psychology. Providers in other states should check with their state boards for acceptance of CME credit.

DISCLOSURE: This Activity meets exception criteria to identify, mitigate, or disclose relevant financial relationships because it is accredited education that is non-clinical, such as leadership or communication skills training.

Cancellation Policy
Cancellations received in writing at least 30 days before the conference start date will receive a refund of registration fees minus a [10%] administrative fee. Requests received between 30 days and 14 days before the start date will receive a 50% refund. No refunds will be issued within 14 days of the start date. Please send cancellation requests through our Refund Request form.
 
UCSF Office of CME reserves the right to cancel or postpone this program if necessary; in the event of cancellation, course fees will be fully refunded. We are not responsible for other costs incurred, such as non-refundable airline tickets, hotel penalties, or other related personal expenses.
