Overview

The TEACH Abortion Training Curriculum is an all-inclusive interactive curriculum with tools to train existing and aspiring reproductive health providers to competence. The Supreme Court of the United States (SCOTUS) gutting of nearly 50 years of federal reproductive protections and the subsequent devolution of the reproductive health care and training landscape has caused devastating health consequences for people with reproductive potential. More than ever, TEACH is committed to training, supporting, and mobilizing all primary care clinicians to help ensure equitable access to sexual and reproductive health care, including abortion, for all. Primary care clinicians globally serve an important role in the provision of reproductive health services as they practice in diverse, rural, and underserved areas (Graham 2005), receive procedural training, and care for patients throughout their reproductive years. This text is primarily U.S.- focused, with expanded global reporting for a growing global audience. This curriculum will help primary care providers better serve people with reproductive potential. Many skills include options counseling, pregnancy dating, timely referrals, miscarriage management, abortion care, aftercare, and contraceptive provision. Rooted in the tenets of Reproductive Justice, the TEACH Curriculum reminds providers that providing reproductive healthcare is critical—for autonomy, dignity, and ensuring that people can make decisions about their own bodies and futures. In this way, the curriculum is a tool not only for skill-building, but also for empowering providers to recognize the role they play in shaping the future of abortion and reproductive healthcare—one rooted in resilience, connection, and unwavering commitment to those they serve.
