Overview

This conference will cover the success of guideline directed care, remote monitoring in the treatment and management of chronic heart failure, new approaches and innovations in the areas of cardiogenic shock, acute and long term mechanical circulatory support devices, heart transplantation, total artificial heart candidacy and implantation, novel valvular heart disease therapeutics, genetic cardiomyopathies, cardiac amyloidosis and management of right heart failure and pulmonary hypertension. A comprehensive, advanced heart failure program can integrate treatment advances into a comprehensive patient-centered heart failure management program. The course will utilize formal lectures, case discussions, an audience response system, questions and answers sessions, and on-demand access to course recordings as remote learning opportunity will also be available.

Objectives
As a result of the education, I intend to:

  1. Describe contemporary guideline-based management of heart failure across the continuum of care, including HFpEF, acute decompensated HF, and outpatient optimization strategies
  2. Describe current approaches to the recognition and management of cardiogenic shock, including initial stabilization, escalation of care, and coordination with quaternary care centers for advanced therapies
  3. Describe management strategies for heart failure–associated comorbidities, including arrhythmias, hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, cardiac amyloidosis, and pulmonary hypertension
  4. Describe preventive strategies for Stage A heart failure and approaches to reducing disease progression in at-risk populations
  5. Describe the evaluation and selection process for advanced heart failure therapies, including LVAD, heart transplantation, and total artificial heart
  6. Describe contemporary heart transplant practices, including UNOS allocation criteria, multiorgan transplantation, donor expansion, and advances in organ preservation
  7. Review multidisciplinary approaches to heart failure care across inpatient, outpatient, and community settings, including transitions of care and post-discharge management
  8. Discuss sex-specific considerations in heart failure, including differences in presentation, management, and outcomes in women
  9. Discuss emergency and community-based management of complex heart failure patients, including those with cardiogenic shock, LVADs, and transplant-related complications
