Overview
This training is a primer/refresher on IUDs and the contraceptive implant, with a focus on helping clinic staff and providers integrate these methods into clinic services to facilitate patient access to a full range of contraceptive options. The training is designed for all types of healthcare providers and support staff. Each section features real-world providers who guide learners through all steps of offering IUDs and implants within a shared decision-making framework. Topics include: CDC Medical Eligibility Criteria for contraceptive initiation, common misinformation about patient eligibility for IUDs and implants, counseling approaches to support patients in making voluntary and informed choices about contraception, and finally, tips and strategies for integrating IUDs and implants into routine care.

Objectives
As a result of the education, I intend to:

  1. Counsel patients on the effectiveness, side effects, and benefits of highly effective methods
  2. Identify common misinformation about IUDs and implants
  3. Apply counseling approaches designed to support patients in making informed and voluntary choices about contraception

AAPA Credit: UCSF Office of CME has been authorized by the American Academy of Physician Associates (AAPA) to award AAPA Category 1 CME credit for activities planned in accordance with AAPA CME Criteria.
This activity is designated for 1.50 AAPA Category 1 CME credits. PAs should only claim credit
commensurate with the extent of their participation.

Physician Assistants: The National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) states that the AMA PRA Category 1 CreditTM are acceptable for continuing medical education requirements for recertification.

California Pharmacists: The California Board of Pharmacy accepts as continuing professional education those courses that meet the standard of relevance to pharmacy practice and have been approved for AMA PRA category 1 CreditTM. If you are a pharmacist in another state, you should check with your state board for approval of this credit.

California Psychologists: The California Board of Psychology recognizes and accepts for continuing education credit courses that are provided by entities approved by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME). AMA PRA Category 1 CreditTM is acceptable to meeting the CE requirements for the California Board of Psychology. Providers in other states should check with their state boards for acceptance of CME credit.

ASWB Credit: Social workers completing this course receive 1.50 general continuing education credits.

ANCC Credit: UCSF Office of CME designates this Activity for a maximum of 1.50 ANCC contact hours.

Cancellations received in writing at least 30 days before the conference start date will receive a refund of registration fees minus a [10%] administrative fee. Requests received between 30 days and 14 days before the start date will receive a 50% refund. No refunds will be issued within 14 days of the start date.
