Overview
Come enjoy the visually delightful and relaxing environment of San Francisco’s Mission Bay district, while obtaining a focused training and update on the scientific bases and technological advances enabling reirradiation. We will cover the basics of radiation effects from the radiobiology and physics perspectives, review establishing and emerging clinical implementation of reirradiation techniques and technologies, discuss approaches to dose estimation and quality assurance in this complex clinical scenario, and explore new means for reirradiation such as with proton therapy or FLASH radiation. The course will review the practical implementation of reirradiation in different disease sites. Case studies, templates, and resource materials will be provided, along with close personal interaction with expert panelists, to maximize learning opportunities.

Objectives
As a result of the education, I intend to:

  1. Describe the fundamental radiobiological principles governing normal organ acute and late toxicities.
  2. Name the major image guidance and dose summation technologies that can be used for reirradiation.
  3. Develop an optimal prostate reirradiation plan.
  4. Contour a breast plan in preparation for reirradiation treatment planning.
  5. Combine lung reirradiation with systemic therapies or immunotherapy.
  6. Combine head and neck reirradiation with systemic therapies or immunotherapy.
  7. Incorporate MR into liver reirradiation delivery.
  8. Decide between single and multi-fraction SRS for brain reirradiation.
  9. SBRT versus IMRT-SIB techniques for reirradiation of gynecologic cancers.
