Overview

Of the 37.8 million current smokers, 70 percent say that they would like to quit. But without assistance, less than five percent are able to stop smoking. They need help from health professionals, whose advice serves as a powerful motivator. Only a minority of healthcare providers know, about available smoking cessation tools and pharmacotherapy, and fewer put them to use. The differences are that health providers are not making this a priority as they should be making with their patients. Reasons clinicians avoid helping smokers quit include time constraints, lack of expertise, lack of financial incentives, respect for a smoker’s privacy, fear that a negative message might lose customers, pessimism because most smokers are unable to quit, stigma, and clinicians being smokers.

The UCSF Smoking Cessation Leadership Center's annual webinar series to address these gaps have been recorded for on-demand learning.

This bundle includes nine (9) webinars from the UCSF Smoking Cessation Leadership Center (SCLC) presented in 2024.
